...unseasonably mild weather to give way to much colder
temperatures and possible low elevation snow this weekend...
while southwest washington and northwest oregon have been
experiencing record setting warmth for the last several days...a
major change in the weather pattern is on the way. a strong cold
front will move through the region from north to south on friday
and friday evening. while snow levels will initially be high...
they will lower dramatically behind the front. as a result...post
frontal showers may fall as a mix of rain and snow down to the
valley floor friday night and saturday before the precipitation
ends by saturday night.
travel will become increasingly difficult through the cascades and
eventually the foothills friday night as rain changes to snow and
starts to accumulate on area roads. several inches of new snow are
possible in these areas by the time snow tapers off saturday
night.
offshore flow will then develop saturday night...with gusty east
winds continuing through sunday. this flow will usher in a period
of much colder temperatures as it pulls in air from an arctic air
mass on the east side of the cascades.
