...unseasonably mild weather to give way to much colder
temperatures and possible low elevation snow this weekend...
for the past several days...southwest washington and northwest
oregon have been experiencing record setting warmth. however...a
major weather pattern change is on the way. a sharp cold front is
expected to move through the region from the north on friday and
friday evening. snow levels will be high initially...but will
fall sharply behind the cold frontal passage. post frontal
showers may fall as a mix of rain and snow down to the valley
floor at times friday night and saturday. precipitation is
expected to end by saturday night. gusty offshore flow is then
expected to develop saturday night and sunday. this offshore flow
will usher in frigid conditions as it pulls in air from an arctic
air mass on the east side of the cascades.

...warm and wet weather will give way to much colder conditions
and possible lowland snow late friday night into saturday...
...cold and windy conditions are expected to develop in the north
interior late friday night into saturday...
big changes in the weather will begin to take place on friday
morning as a strong cold front moves southeast across the region.
this front will be accompanied by locally heavy rainfall and windy
conditions. temperatures will start off mild in the early morning
hours...in the lower 50s in most areas...but will fall through
the 40s during the afternoon hours and into the 30s friday
evening.
a modified arctic front will move south through the area friday
night into early saturday. snow levels will fall below 1000 feet
friday night and to near sea level saturday morning. it is too
early to tell how much snow will fall in the lowlands late friday
night or saturday morning. most areas will likely see light
snowfall amounts...but some weather forecast models show up to a
few inches in the interior from north of seattle into the northern
interior.
windy conditions will develop late friday night into saturday over
the san juan islands and in western whatcom county. these areas
may see northeast winds increase to 25 to 40 mph with gusts to 55
mph. the windy conditions will be accompanied by temperatures in
the 20s to around 30.
stay tuned to the latest updates from the national weather service
in seattle.
