Free Public Wind Sensors
As a free service to our users, we also include wind readings from publicly available sources such as NOAA, NWS, airports, off shore bouys, and many more. No need for you to keep track of all those random bookmarks...we've collect all the good info and published them for free! Although these public domain sensors can tell you the general weather, what we as sailors want to know is "What is it doing at my spot?" We answer this question by placing our custom-made sensors right where you sail. Our Meteorologists consider the WeatherFlow mesonet the most valuable tool available to them. Since our sensors report and record the winds every day, we are constantly learning the patterns of what effects winds at your beach. No other service has the sensors at the land/sea interface, no other service can be as accurate as we are. Public domain sensors typically update anywhere from every 1 hour to 3 hours during the day and are not located at sailing beaches. Weatherflow sensors are constantly updating throughout the day so you will always know the moment the wind fills in.
Please see the "sensor notes" for each sailing site for specific information on each sensor type and location.
