Looks like Half Moon Bay was windy yesterday, I have not sailed there yet but am within a couple hours. Has anyone been there recently? Any advice for winter storm sailing there?
Thanks,

HMB for storm sailing is tricky. Best advice is bring lots of gear, small to big and be patient. Since I live only 1/2 hr away hitting HMB right is easier. Otherwise best bet is to watch the weather closly;each storm has characterisitcs which can help predict what the winds will be like; in some storms the wind can be 4.0 for 20 min than 7.0 for 2 hours until the next band of clouds come in. If you have all day, rig a flat 4.7 and wait until the 4.0 winds come. The water is really dirty, tasts like gasoline, and is really flat. If you are really good you may be able to wave sail right next to the harbour. Again waiting for the burst of fickle 4.0 winds to arrive. |

The Local Info page for Half Moon Bay on this website is pretty helpful. Also make sure to check out the detailed beachmap. If strong winter S winds are predicted...its worth the gamble. Onshore wave-sailing in front of Miramar restaurant (just south of the HMB jetty) can be fun on the right day. |
