Anyone,
is kiting allowed at Heckscher beach Long Island? Last year there seemed to be problems with it, is it still the case ?

I wouldnt take a chance, but you could call the park to check (let us know if you do!). But Heckscher is a lousy kite launch anyway, beach is extremely narrow, lots of windsurf rigs all over the place, risk of lines on top of cars, etc. So why not just go over to Robert Moses and play in the waves? Cleaner, plenty of space, throngs of astonished onlookers!

Dave,
agree the spot is outright lousy both in and out of the water but Ive always end up kiting alone in the ocean which is not that great of a thing. I think local kiters (us) should start coming up with a spot around Moses beach for regular use. I think were still a small number, small enough not to raise an issue with authorities...it would be great to drive to the ocean knowing someone most likely will be there kiting...
any suggestions ?

Ive been out in the ocean a fair amount and never thought too much of it, but I never venture out very far. Actually I have seen a couple kiters at Rbt Moses. There are several out at Napeague too. Ill let you know next time I get out there, e-mail me: theraves@optonline.net
