I am spending some time in southern spain this spring and I am looking for some advice / hints about traveling with equipment.

How to pack ?
Board bag setups?
General costs?
Words of Wisdom?
Getting Around?

Any ideas or sources for information on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Brendan

My friends that have traveled with gear put it in coffin bags. They should be well padded.

Beware, airlines are not very nice to your gear. This one guy had his board completely destroyed because they slammed all the luggage on top of the board bag.

also these bags are really heavy when loaded. We dented the roof of a rental car trying to get it to the hotel.

Say, where u going ? Tarifa ?

1. Call airline to confirm policy
2. standard setup windsurfer= 4 bags: boards, sails, masts + booms (u can put more than one per bag ! as long as its not more than 90lbs - to be confirmed by airline)
3. wrap, protect, bubble wrap+ cardboard, individual bag in coffin bag.
4. take camera for pictures + have copies of invoices handy @ home just in case !
5. travel with a friend or the pickup of gear + rental car will be nightmare (use skateboard ?)
6. once landed and baggage pickedup, open board bags and check for damages. if damaged, take pictures and go to airline to bitch and make a claim !
7. Insure all your gear prior to departure so as to have double coverage
8. get medical coverage to be flown back in case of incident (and for all your gear to be brought back !!!)
9. The End

forgot
10. $150 one way for one windsurfer ! (international fare, domestic=$75)

Might want to check rentals locally, especially in Tarifa, as it could be cheaper pending on length of stay !

I am going to Gran Canaria for a month, and its cheaper to bring gear due to time window

Ride on
