About to start another roadtrip of a year or so. I am looking for input from begining wave sailors on sites they would recommend @ Hatteras, Florida, Texas, Calif, and Oregon. Had a great day at Manzanita(OR)last year, will be spending a couple of weeks in Maui in April. Got the bug-need more.

May we assume youve considered Oregons other dozen+ coast spots from Astoria to Pistol? Most of them often have mild wave conditions between the flat days and the big days ... if ya dont mind fighting the rip currents, cold water, and blinding sun directly in your eyes (most are mid- to late-PM spots).

virginia key in miami-fl has warm water, no shorebreak, flat water and outside wavebreak, the waves are not big but they are everywhere, then the southwest coast, marco island gets it real good on the west wind directions( next five days in a row will be 5.0-3.0 there with this storm cranking up). one thing down here is warm water in the spring but the wind is hit or miss but usually best march and april which would be good till the water warms up elsewhere, there are other better wave spots close by like by me in jupiter but shorebreak and larger waves are more challenging. hatteras in the fall can be great cause the water is still real warm, can you tell im allergic to cold water.

Thanks guys! Mag reviews are usually written by those whose ability far exceeds mine, and while some seem to remember what it was like to learn the timing and feel, others seem to have selective memory loss. I know with patience many sites can develop an acceptable range of conditions, but time on the water not time on the beach is the goal.
