Hope you and your family have an appreciation for cold weather.Seriously though The-house.com has a windsurfing warehouse in st paul MN. You could send them an email and get some advice from them. Also a few years back windsurfing magazine ran an article on great lake windsurfing maybe you could order that issue.Hope this has been of some help.

Yes, Minnesota is very cold in the winter. You will find friendly sailors and plenty of clean water to sail when the wind blows (key). 30,000 lakes and some you cant see across. Try windancing.com and read the stories! The description of lakes is very incomplete, catering mostly to twin cities sailors, but gives you a feel for some venues. Best wind comes when the water is cool to cold but occasionally you can experience an awesome warm water sail as well. I may see you there if I move back because I now have children and am not impressed with the priorities of bay area taxpayers.
