San Diego is the un-windy capital of the world. Does this answer your question? I guess not...besides you probably already knew that.. ***DILLWEED FOR PRESIDENT*** |

I live in San Diego and have sailed J street many times over the last 6 years, though mostly when the wind is blowing south to southwest. When the occasional storms come during the winter J street is the best place to go for the strongest wind (the reach is also very long). Although J street can be one of the windiest spots during the normal west to northwest winds found in San Diego, most people prefer the flatter water of Mission Bay. J street has short steep chop, and seems to have more weedgrass, both of which are not desireable when you are trying to plane in 12 mph(if youre lucky) of wind. Despite this, I have had some of my best San Diego sailing days at J street with a southerly wind. The wind shoots over the silver strand unencumbered, and is the best chance for the San Diego sailor to sail sub 6 meter sails. See you down there next storm. |
