Were thinking of visiting Cancun around Christmas time. Does anyone know about the reliability of December wind? Any gear suggestions other than those mentioned in the previous Cancun in June message? Any recommendations for places to stay?

You might want to check out La Ventana, Baja Mexico for a December trip, the wind is much more reliable than Cancun. Go to www.captainkirks.com and click on Destination: La Ventana for complete information including daily wind graphs.

windsurfing was a nightmare in Cancun. It seems there are NO rentals worth mentioning. The Carib BIC center is a JOKE!!!
rotten gear for more than $60 / day. I mean ROTTEN!!! old crap from early 1990. I sailed a busted up BIC Rap with a fin that spun out if you threatened to plane, a sail that should have been in a museum. What a mess. However, I managed to sail in epic conditions, which left me wondering why the gear rentals were like the Mayan Ruins. Locals ripped around me with great gear..as I jumped chop with my crummy rental junk. sigh..so Cancun can rip, but I think its inconsistent.

Most people will tell you to sign in for a day at Club Med, but that didnt look too rippin to me. Depends on your level. If you are advanced, bring your gear. If you are a beginner, or intermediate Club Med might be good for you.

oh..I went in April. It blew most of the time I was there. I have no idea about Christmas time winds, but my guess is that it would be skunk time based on general trades, but I dont know for sure.

good luck.
