Shorter lines on Naish 9.5?

Has anyone tried using
shorter lines on a 4-line Naish to go out in winds that would over- power the kite if the lines were kept at their
regular length? How does shortening the lines on a larger kite compare to using a smaller kite with a standard length line? It seems it would be a lot cheaper to buy different line lengths for the same kite rather than buying different sized kites.
