So we want to know for the beginner, over the face plant stage, what is the best high performance sail/board combination for the Outer Banks, NC area? And we can only spend $3000.00.
Any input from the surfing sages would be great.

For three grand you can get some good gear. Buy used gear. 9 bump & jump board, two surf masts, wave or slalom sails; 4.5,5.0,5.5.6.0, fins; 9.5 wave & 11 pointer, two booms; wave, and two mast extensions/base plates, two wet suits; summer & winter. You should have enough money left over to gas up your SUV and take a date out for a surf and turf dinner with some good wine.

You should still be in the gear trashing stage. Wave gear is best. If you baby your gear you will never get to the advance level of the sport. The only gear that will probably survive will be the masts and the extensions. Trashing your gear is part of paying your dues in this sport. Oh, dont forget to include a good first aid kit.
