I want to start attempting Vulcans and I need a starting point.
I sail on a river that gets 1-2 foot swells, and currently I am able to jump up two to three feet consistantly and stable. I pick out a clean ramp and then go for the one behind it. After I clear the original swell I push the nose down into the trough and then up the ramp and push off at the peak. I think I pull back pretty hard on the sail.

Now... what do I need to do different to initiate a Vulcan.

Ill start by saying that Ive only attempted about a dozen Vulcans - and the last one I injured my back foot when I caught a rail on the way down.

Go to this site and check out the step by step:
http://www.windsport.com/windsport/vulcan.htm

Heres what I can add from personal experience:

To get the board to move around initiate the jump slightly sheeted out, and when in the air pull hard on the front hand when you let go with the back.

On my foot injury: If you dont rotate at least about 120 degrees youll catch a rail and stop (instead of sliding). This is bad.

My foot did heal up very quickly, and Ill be trying some more very soon. I also did get some FootSaver foot straps, the ones that release if you fall forward hard.

Good luck.
