to owners of widestyle boards do you enjoy riding them in 20+ winds with medium chop?

I have a North Shore Maui course 67. I bought it to use with sails from 7.5 to 9.0 in winds up to around 20. In finding out what the board will do I have sailed it a number of times with a 6.5 in 25 plus and a very heavy chop. To do this I go from the 48 race fin to a 40 tear drop. I cant say its fun but you can do it and doing so will certainly make you a better sailor. One thing to remember, almost all of the widestyle boards are very light in construction and were not ment to be sailed in these conditions, doing so will shorten their life span.

Wide styles are more user friendly if the rails are thin, the hard rail variety are difficult to sail fast in chop or swell. If you chose the correct widestle for your skill level, local conditions and wind speed you will be very satisfied. Dont expect to sail a 170l hard rail widestyle in 20+ knots in chop and enjoy it. But, a thin railed 100 to 120l widestyle could be an awsome sailing experiance.

I have a great experience with my Mission Race 68 (145L) with a 8m GTX in about 20knots medium condition, I can overtake other with a lovely speed (including a guy with 6.6m Nitro + 273 Axxis) in the water

I have a BIC Techno 283 , weigh about 150 lbs and rate a 6 out of 12 on the skill chart.. I most often use an 8 meter sail and most often have light winds in flat water. Last year I ended up with this rig in 25+ mile/hr gusts and took a short wild ride I dont recomend. The problem with the stock 48 fin is that besides being too long for high winds, its flexibility creates a ride the wild bull effect. Ive since switched to a true ames 13.5 weed fin, and so far havent had a problem(and I run aground much less). In chop, the board is very forgiving and I complete more of my gibes than I should. The board is fun in most conditions, but the board speed seems to top out in the low 20s(mph). The other problem is that my wife loves it.

I have a 97 bic veloce 310 and its a great board but there are times I would like something shorter when it blowin 20+ substained winds.I weigh 175lbs and would use a 7.5 sail. What about the tiga 281 or bic veloce 278 or 288,would any of those be a good choice?
