trying to plan for maui for next year...want to spend the whole month in July. Wholly Pineapple batman,,, lodging has gone thru the roof! so far the only possible solution is to rent a room near airport and drive to Kanaha, Sprecks, etc.. to sail... staying right on the north shore is beyond expensive.
Does anyone have any solution they would like to share? I would love to stay right on the NS and sail from the property, I was thinking approx $2400 ($80 per day) just got a quote for $7500 !!!

I have a home in Kuau.(Next to Mama's fish house). Guest house might be available for $4000 per month short term.

I stayed at one of Rick Whidden's houses next to the old Buddist Cemetary for your asking price...in 1992.
Might cost more now.

Everything on Maui has gone through the roof. We rented a beach front house (4 bedrooms) just south of Maui Sunset, $8000 for 7 nights. Rented a Dodge Caravan for $100 a day. Food costs eating out about $100 a day for 2, nothing fancy. I doubt you’ll find an accomodations you can sail out of for anything less than an arm and a leg. But then again Maui no ka oi.

So I gave up on a place to stay and launch right there. It is so far impossible to find anything to rent where they will go or a 1-2 month rental. Everyone is looking for 6-12 months..

Maybe think outside of the box; Tenerife. An apartment in El Medano one block from El Cabezo beach runs around $50. Car rental for two weeks was just shy of $300 & food is awesome & inexpensive. Love their $10 fish tacos.

I don’t wanna give up on Maui but I’m gonna have to look at other alternatives. Spain, South America I’m not sure. Hey at least it’s still free to go to kanaha and Windsurf so there’s that.

There’s talk about charging for parking at beaches like hookipa & kanaha. They’re already charging to park at Iao Valley, $10/car. Maui seems to be rethinking the whole tourist thing. There’s also talk about limiting the number of rental cars and putting a moratorium on new hotel rooms. It appears that the locals really liked Maui without tourist’s during the pandemic.

so basically they do not want tourist.... I would think that brings $$ to the island... but I do not really know much apparently... as far as car rental,,, Turo is the way to go for sure. I REALLY do not want to revert to the Gorge, at my age of 55 I just do not have it in me anymore to deal with cold enough water for full on wetsuits.
