Hi Gang,

Long ago Larkspur/PSQ was one of the most popular and crowded launch sites in the Bay Area and blew 4-5 days a week. These days it blows far less frequently and is often empty of windsurfers.

This animated blog tells a bit of that history and why Larkspur has totally ripped recently.

And maybe related but I don't recall this many really windy (small craft advisory) days in a row for the central bay (Treasure Island). We normally have many 5.0 days but hardly ever 4.0 days. These last three weeks to a month have been kind of nuts out there.

Hi tomg,

That animation below shows the eddy on one of those epic north tower to Treasure Island to Brooks Island days.

Those powerful Treasure Island winds were the product of the long period we had more circular eddies. When these circular eddies transform into elongated eddies is when Larkspur rips and Treasure Island is "just" low 20's.

In the old days, we had low-resolution crappy tools but did decent forecast since the wind patterns were so simple ie. NW ocean days or SW marine surge days.

These days we have very high-resolution tools but a swirling mass of ever-changing eddy winds to contend with. So we still have just decent forecasts... sigh!

If we got back the old simple wind patterns our forecasts would be stellar... really.

I got one 4.5 day there last Saturday and my buddy got five days in a row last week. Only the two of us out the whole three hours.
He already got two days this week.
Great story about Larkspur and the old days sailing there and all the cars. Thanks Mike
