Does anyone know if the parking and access to Bob's beach are open now?

Bob's is open and has spring conditions. Strong current and the water is not warm. People have been doing the walk of shame or worse. Be realistic about your ability level and fitness. Guy had trouble today and like a miracle the Stern Wheeler was able to pick him up. We all went through the learning phase. Be safe everyone. Please don't leave your gear blocking the launch at the downstream Port building ramp. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Thank you.

Tips:
1. The walk of shame at Bob's is the worst I've encountered on the Columbia. You don't want to do it.

2. A MUCH easier option is to run straight downwind to the Cascade Locks ferry landing, toss your gear on the lawn, walk into the restaurant, beg a ride across the bridge to Bob's, get your van, and drive back to retrieve your gear.

lilliott, your participation on this forum is welcome and encouraged. Do not let anybody shame you for your participation, no matter how infrequent.

A lot of questions about open/closed areas can be answered here (click on "read more").

Is there a website that records/displays Columbia river flow as a function of time of year?

It can vary very significantly day by day, even hour by hour sometimes, as they open and close the gates, so an annual plot is not likely to be very informative for anything beyond very general monthly planning or wishful thinking. It's worst in "the Spring", which can run anywhere from March-ish into July-ish. The present air temps are often still in the 50s and 60s and the water still in the 50s. That sounds a lot like Spring even though the days start getting shorter within a couple of weeks.

On top of that, the Corps is under very heavy legal pressure to keep the water cooler than it has been in recent years, which means accounting for such parameters as dam gates, snow pack and melt, river levels, air temps, stream flows and temps, etc. Temira (The Gorge is my Gym) reports them each morning for Maryhill/Rufus, but the only annual plot I could quickly find was for 2015 and 2016. I'm sure Google and such key words as Columbia River USGS The Dalles John Day dam discharge rate will lead you to useful information.

Also, localized (individual dam) discharge rates and current flow often vary independently. At any different hour, day, and site YMMV considerably even though the overall discharge rate at the river's mouth probably varies much more slowly.
