Crony socialism, as practiced by Republicans:

Quote:
The uranium company Ur-Energy Inc. received $893,300 via two of its subsidiaries during the Paycheck Protection Program's first round of loans, even though it said a few weeks ago that the coronavirus pandemic had not impacted its flagship mining operation in Wyoming. The Colorado-headquartered company had previously petitioned the Trump administration to set up barriers against uranium imports, prompting the creation of the Nuclear Fuel Working Group, which released a report in late April calling for specific limits on imports from Russia and China. It could be argued that bankruptcy is socialism. It is absolutely socialism if the bank loans for production of shale oil are bailed out by the Federal government. But I guess for the far right, socialism only means providing health care for the poor. Anything for the rich is not socialism?

Quote:
After Chesapeake Energy Corp. reported first-quarter losses of about $8.3 billion, the shale-drilling company said it might not be able to stay in business and has hired advisers to explore options like bankruptcy. The Oklahoma City-based company - which was once among the biggest companies in the U.S. fracking boom - has been trying to chip away at its substantial debt for years, an effort that has been imperiled by the coronavirus pandemic and the plunge in oil prices. More bailouts for oil:

Quote:
At least 37 oil companies, service firms and contractors have utilized a provision of the $2.2 trillion stimulus law that gives them more leeway to deduct losses and claim hundreds of millions in tax rebates, according to a review of Securities and Exchange Commission filings. The companies have claimed more than $1.9 billion in CARES Act tax benefits, the review found, which watchdog group researcher Jesse Coleman called a "stealth bailout" for the oil and gas industry. There are probably some legitimate anti-trust reasons to go after Google--but the reason that they are doing it is to make sure that Trump can post whatever lies he wants without them being taken down.

While collecting a tiny percentage of the money he gave big businesses in tax reductions for the largest campaign fund ever...

Do you remember when even Republicans were outraged by Nixon's enemies list? Now they glory in Trump's. Amazon, all press not run by Murdoch, every Democrat, Google, etc.

Fascism starts this way.

NW .. good point .. I don’t tend to be real politically correct , so I’m not moved by Trump using the word “ Thug”, it’s good for turnout ..Let’s move past the minutiae, NW and get back on topic . Trump sued to stop the TWX /T union because he hates CNN, Barr is now going after GOOG because he thinks the search results are biased, boo fucking hoo, and now the Bee Yatch in chief is going after Twitter with a toothless threat , in spite of the fact that Twitter is Trumps number 1 medium to spread his lies .. So , I ask if you’re ok with the insane level of Government intrusion we are seeing ?

Looks like deflation is ascendant at the moment. 25% of restaurants will not reopen, bay area rents down 8-10%, fracking in the Permian basin has stopped.

This guy has a point.
