Wow, Dlee you have friends who can foil jibe.
Back to to nose thing at least for me saling out in the middle of the bay (The Slot) and beyond the no nose is a life saver. It can get very choppy and confused with the tall mast and short board you don't stuff the nose driving upwind or have to constantly do the dance up and down to avoid stuffing it. As far as off the wind riding swell it's a no-brainer shorter turns quicker hand down and I'm way past the breaching issue. It's not any harder to get going in marginal wind if you have the right size sail and or know how to pump the sail and board at the same time.
At 200+ I can sail 105 with a 3.8 as low a 16 mph waterstarting only.
In this picture it's lite 14 to 18 mph and was sailing a 3.8 Most everything is about refining your technique just as it is in windsurfing.
Ya that's a seal sleeping in the background on the foil you can sneak up on them.

That is great to see. Not many people your size would've dreamed of using a board and sail size that sail in 16mph wind a few years back. I've heard of some people using a 7m on the 105. Even though it recommends sizes to 5.2 max! I realize foiling takes a totally different approach to pumping up and going to windsurfing so its interesting how that works with such small volume. Obviously someone lighter will be able to use a slightly bigger rig on the 105. I realize light wind is not what it's designed for but 5'10" would be nice for fitting in the car |

Based on my experience maximum sail size for foiling is a function of board width and sailor weight with heavier sailors being able to rig bigger for a given width. |
