my boots stink.... i know there are wetsuit shampoos or whatever to deal with this... (do they work?)
but was wondering if there are any 'hacks'...home remedies ? maybe filling the boots with a water/vinegar solution ? anyone know of anything that works ?
regular shampoo doesn't work.... |

A good freshwater rinse after each outing, then good drying works for me. I carry a gallon of water in my van just to rinse. Going down to the lake shore works too, but saves me a trip.
I have always worn booties (34 years) and have never used a chemical or soap to rinse my booties. Quick drying is very helpful, usually just sitting in my garage. |

Sometimes i just walk right into the shower with the whole shebang on
I drop a little bit of good old hair shampoo onto the suit and into the boots after peeling the mess....so much easier than the parking lot disaster in winter
Rinse and then nice a nice blowing air-dry cuts way down on the stink, and probably prolongs life of all
Leaving them in the van wet is a sure fired wrenching stink...probably just dead skin and all

Soak in some bleach water. Haven't used white vinegar but it seems to do about everything?? |

My Booties reek after about 15 days, and the Resident Evil in them occasionally animates them so that they walk around by themselves.
Fortunately for everybody downwind, they usually wear out after about a
year, but before they wear out they usually get several hand washes in

That makes then tolerable for a few days.
I also "hear" Pine Sol works pretty well, haven't tried that though.

As said before, a quick rinse & air dry. I occasionally soak my booties in acidic water which also seems to help.

Brief summary of previous posts on cleaning and vastly extending the life of neoprene, from booties to beanies:
Wet suit shampoo.
Front loading washing machine.
Peet boot dryer for the booties. |

Curiuos......why not top loading washing machine. I do have some of that ‘sports’ washing machine detergent. Designed for low temp . Works with my mountain biking gear. |
