The Da Curve was the quad or 5 box offering its a tri now, with 3 slot boxes.
The 3S is now a tri as well , with a powerbox as the center.
Curious that a quad is not offered, any reason ?
The graphics are a departure for Tabou, quite nice. _________________ K4 fins

If it don't sell, it's out...
Tris are faster and glide better. Few windsurfers are good enough to use the snappier turning offered by quads. And few enough purely ride waves..who buy retail. |

I reckon Starboard Simmer Goya Fanatic didnt get the DONT sell memo.
Tris and quads have never been touted as speed oriented .
The regular guy who ventures into waves from time to time can utilize the quads potential in part. _________________ K4 fins

Nope, you're wrong there.
Just like the Hypersonic, what does not work very well goes by the wayside.
Just like in surfing, where skill level might be higher than in ws, the quads only exist in a tiny niche, getting smaller each day. |

Wrong about what ?
I have a 105 Hypersonic , 2nd one, its a fun board, easy to ride, a mini formula board, similar to a stubby formula if that existed.
Hardly anything in windsurfing is just like surfing.
Your first year 2010Starboard quad has a few improvements now. _________________ K4 fins

Because an option is different to yours, doesnt mean they are wrong.
The quad/tri/twin doesnt suit everyone, same as a 20YO single doesnt _________________ K4 fins

Tri fins (thrusters), quads, twins and singles all have a different feel on the wave and each have a niche they excel at. For me I only need a quad when the waves are big and fast. Big and slow I prefer a thruster set up as the thruster set up excels at open face carves. Twins I like for crappy small waves. Singles for when getting out is more important than the ride back in, which for me is most often onshore lighter conditions.
Living in Florida and mostly sailing in Florida I set my Florida boards most often as twin or single. When I travel looking for quality waves, quads and thrusters are more likely to be the better set up. |

SO your QUADS get used in waves that are big and fast ( fine , what that is too you is different to me ) aside.
Does the quad offer an enhanced benefit to a normal ( yes define normal) non PWA tour weekend sailor ?
I’m not looking for a comparison of fin configuration, but easy enough since the thread is about ONE company discontinuing it. While plenty of others are offering one /more in their lineup.
PS: your reflections : are similar to mine on which fin configuration to use, except twins, which I find are hardest to ride, history speaks, as twins went to quads to fix the twins misgivings.
PSS: was never any intend to praise quads, the lack of any on Tabous 2019 offerings , says the tri to them is the wave of the future. _________________ K4 fins

There are enough weekend warrior sailors that sail good breaks - Cape Sebastian, Davenport, Toes, Backyards, Hookipa, plus plenty of non US breaks - that have the benefit of conditions worthy of a quad. Sadly I don't have conditions worthy of a quad unless I hop on an airplane. |
