Looks like my annual trip to the Inland Sea is due. Planning to head up early tomorrow morning. Forecast is S 30 to 40.

Good idea. Bring your smallest stuff because if the forecast holds, it's going to be beyond nuclear for here. I'm expecting 3.0. It will probably be survival for me as my smallest is 3.5 and 80 ltr board.
You should consider Plattsburgh. The swell should be ginormous. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a consistent 6 - 8 foot.
Enjoy! |

Lars, you have a knack for this ... I see it's blowing 30-40. JP |

Jay,
It was more like 30-40 in the morning to 35-50 by noon.
Was on 4.0 and then rigged down to the 3.5. Sailed on the 69L Fanatic New Wave. Not sure why I left the 3.0 at home.
Got about 5 hours in. Definitely worth the 3h 45 min drive. One problem was the weeds, I got catapulted twice hitting a clump.
Possible repeat next week.

Always a good report !
I got a late day sup sail in RI today. 15mph, dead onshore, mushy wind waves, some fun. I was gambling on the late day wind, it's blowing now of course. JP |

Was on a 3.5 and it was too big. Made a few runs but was too overpowered to sail. The lake waves and rollers were great. |

I've pretty much abandoned ordinary wave and B&J fins for eastern Gorge sailing the past couple of summers. Weeds are taking over, and I've found that some weed fins perform as well as -- often better than -- their normal counterparts. They make mattress- and pillow-sized clusters much less hazardous, pretty much ignore the single weed strings that prevent planing, and slash/jibe/pinch/grip/rip at very high levels. With weeds, they're a no-brainer IMO. |

Looks crazy, that front came through late yesterday and early today here in eastern Maine, some 40+ gusts this morning.
On local lake if felt like 20-35+-, but there were some monster gusts. Sailed a starboard phantom 377 w/ 6.8 ezzy. Yeah kind of crazy but only board currently and rarely sail the smaller sail on it. Other than some upwind wave slam and one bad gust when jibing (into the drink to avoid catapult) it was quite the session, at least for around here! |
