I would pay to watch the deposition live....

https://news.yahoo.com/john-dean-key-figure-watergate-004058827.html

John Dean, a key figure in the Watergate scandal, said he'd 'pay to handle' Trump's deposition which he thinks could 'sell tickets'

Trump said he would voluntarily give a deposition in a lawsuit he filed against big tech companies.

John Dean, a key Watergate figure said he'd pay to do that deposition, CNN reported.

Dean said even though Trump would lie, he'd press him on what he was doing during the Capitol riot.

Key Watergate figure John Dean told CNN he'd pay to handle former President Donald Trump's deposition that Trump said he wanted to voluntarily do in a lawsuit he filed against Twitter, Facebook, and Google.

"I would pay to do that deposition. I think a lot of attorneys would," Dean told CNN's Jim Acosta on Sunday.

In an interview with former Fox News host Bill O'Reilly earlier this week, Trump said he wanted to do a deposition in the lawsuit against the companies.

"I mean, I look forward to it, actually," Trump said. "I love talking about the election fraud."

Social media sites like Twitter and Facebook banned Trump after the January 6 Capitol riots, after he repeatedly made false claims of election fraud.

During the riots, supporters of Trump breached the Capitol building and clashed with law enforcement.

Dean, who worked as former President Richard Nixon's White House Counsel and later testified about the Watergate scandal in front of Congress, said Trump set a legal trap for himself by saying that.

"He's always said 'I'm willing to give a deposition', just like he's always said 'I'm going to turn over my tax returns when the audit's finished.' He'll have an excuse for this," Dean told CNN.

Dean said big tech shouldn't try to dismiss the case but instead "engage" with Trump because "he's going to lose on the merits. Seriously lose on the merits."

Dean said he'd go straight into asking about what Trump was talking about and knew during the Capitol riot.

"He'll lie. He's a very good liar, we know that, but I think if you start drawing in some of the papers and facts that are now appearing he's going to have more trouble with it," Dean told CNN.

Dean added that the deposition could warrant selling tickets.

"It could be a dandy deposition. I think you could sell tickets for it and do quite well," he said.

Trump cornered? Witness told prosecutors Trump was involved in tax scheme

Quote:
While the legal filings in the criminal probe into the Trump Organization do not directly prove Trump’s knowledge of the alleged crimes, the former daughter-in-law of Trump’s money man is now doing just that. Jennifer Weisselberg told prosecutors Trump personally guaranteed the scheme to hide employee income through school costs and that she saw Trump do so in 2012, according to the Daily Beast. MSNBC’s Chief Legal Correspondent Ari Melber is joined by former federal prosecutor John Flannery to discuss this major revelation and why it’s not mentioned in the indictment.

Biden's Justice Department says IRS 'must' hand over Trump tax returns to Congress

Quote:
(CNN)The Justice Department told the Treasury Department that it "must" turn over former President Donald Trump's tax returns to the House Ways and Means Committee, which first requested them more than two years ago.

The direction came in an opinion released Friday by the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel, which provides legal advice to the executive branch.
"The Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee has invoked sufficient reasons for requesting the former President's tax information." Under the department's interpretation of federal law, according to the opinion, "Treasury must furnish the information to the Committee."
The opinion was released on the same day that the House committee and the Treasury Department are expected to submit a court filing in the lawsuit that House Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal brought in July 2019 seeking the tax returns. According to previous filings in the case, lawmakers and the Biden administration have been in discussion for several months as to how to move forward in the litigation.
"As I have maintained for years, the Committee's case is very strong and the law is on our side. I am glad that the Department of Justice agrees and that we can move forward," Neal said in a statement to CNN.
The OLC opinion indicated that the House committee had again submitted with the Treasury Department a request for the returns in June of this year. That request, obtained by CNN, shows that the committee had shifted the scope of its investigation since it had originally requested the returns, with a new interest in understanding the "business entanglements" of the former president and how the IRS' presidential audit program handled them.
The House panel now say tax returns could "reveal hidden business entanglements raising tax law and other issues, including conflicts of interest, affecting proper execution of the former President's responsibilities."
"An independent investigation might also show foreign financial influences on former President Trump that could inform relevant congressional legislation," the new request said. It also shifted forward the years of returns the committee was seeking, to cover Trump's time in office more squarely. The new request seeks the returns between 2015 and 2020.
It is unclear whether Trump, who has intervened in the case in his personal capacity, will continue to fight the release of the returns in court. A lawyer for Trump did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
At Trump's request earlier this year, the judge ordered that the Treasury Department give the former President a three-days heads up if it intends to hand over the returns, so that he could consider whether he would like to take legal action to stop the agency.
The Treasury Department declined to comment.
DOJ's shift in position is victory for the House as it continues to investigate the former President and his administration.
"Access to former President Trump's tax returns is a matter of national security," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in a statement. "The American people deserve to know the facts of his troubling conflicts of interest and undermining of our security and democracy as President."
Reversal of opinion
Under Trump, DOJ's Office of Legal Counsel cast doubt on whether the lawmakers had a legitimate legislative purpose in making the request.
The new opinion said that the previous administration got it wrong. "In evaluating whether the information sought in the April 2019 Request could serve such a purpose, however, the 2019 Opinion failed to afford the Committee the respect due to a coordinate branch of government," the new opinion says.
Neal initially requested Trump's tax returns from Treasury and the IRS in April 2019 using a little-known section of the US tax code that allows chairmen of both Ways and Means and Senate Finance committees to request the tax returns of any American. Neal argued he made his request to learn more about the Presidential Audit program, which automatically reviews the taxes of any sitting President and Vice President.
But when the Trump administration rebuffed the request, Neal subpoenaed the records. The subpoena was ignored and in July 2019, the House filed suit.

The litigation dragged on for months and then stalled out entirely in early January 2020, when the judge -- Trump-appointee Trevor McFadden -- put the proceedings on hold while a federal appeals court considered a separate case, concerning the House's subpoena of former White House counsel Don McGahn for testimony.
While that case was resolved earlier this year with an agreement for McGahn's testimony, the legal waiting game for Trump's tax returns continued after Biden was inaugurated, as discussions between the House and the administration about a resolution dragged out for months, according to court filings.
Biden's Justice Department has a mixed record on where it has sought to reverse Trump-era DOJ positions that protected the former President.
On the one hand, the DOJ, under Biden, is continuing to argue that it should be allowed to substitute itself for Trump as a defendant in a defamation lawsuit brought by E. Jean Carroll, a woman who was smeared by Trump when she claimed that he had raped her. On the other hand, the department recently indicated it would allow former officials to testify in the House investigation into the January 6 insurrection.

trumps lawyers are still quitting on him

Trump's attorney in his NYT lawsuit was previously general counsel for a parking-garage company

Quote:
After the departure of one of his "best-known" attorneys, former President Donald Trump hired Alina Habba, a "low profile attorney from New Jersey." On Trump's behalf, she recently filed an $100 million lawsuit against The New York Times, three Times reporters and the ex-president's niece, The Washington Post reports.

Interestingly enough, however, media law is not listed among Habba's specialties, although she has "filed other lawsuits against media outlets this year," writes the Post. Her past experience includes "serving as general counsel for a parking-garage company," as well as representing Trump supporter and former Real Housewives of New Jersey cast member Siggy Flicker in a fight with Facebook, per the Post.

The $100 million lawsuit, filed Tuesday, alleges Trump's niece, Mary Trump, "violated the terms of a 2001 legal settlement by providing [New York Times reporters] with family financial records — which they used to write Pulitzer Prize-winning stories in 2018 detailing schemes that Trump and his father allegedly used to dodge taxes," writes the Post.

Habba told the Post "she had never worked for Trump before" coming aboard another case this month, and declined to say how the two had been connected.

"I just stepped in," she said

Trump summoned a young, female press aide to his Air Force One cabin so he could look at her butt, new book says

Stephanie Grisham says Trump took an inappropriate liking to one of his young, female press staffers.

Stephanie Grisham, a longtime former top White House staffer, wrote in her forthcoming memoir that former President Donald Trump took an inappropriate liking to one of his young, female staffers, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

The Post, which obtained a copy of Grisham's book, reported that Trump became "obsessed" with a young, female press staffer that Grisham didn't name. He would regularly ask where the aide was during media events and once demanded that she be delivered to his cabin on Air Force One so he could "look at her [behind]," the Post reported.

Grisham, who joined the Trump campaign in 2016 and went on to serve as White House press secretary and the first lady's chief of staff, wrote that Trump also made inappropriate sexual comments to her and once asked her to assure him that his penis wasn't small or abnormally shaped, as the adult film star Stormy Daniels had alleged.

Twenty-six women have publicly accused the former president of sexual misconduct, including rape, groping, and harassment. Trump has denied all of the allegations and called the women "liars."

Grisham's book, "I'll Take Your Questions Now," is scheduled to go on sale on October 5.

A book from former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham says President Donald Trump’s temper could be frightening — and that aides sometimes needed to play show tunes to calm him down.

Grisham’s book, “I’ll Take Your Questions Now,” is set for release on Oct. 5.

But according to reporting from the New York Times and Washington Post, Grisham said the White House designated an aide to play Trump's favorite show tunes — including "Memory" from "Cats" — when he was particularly angry.

The Times identifies the aide as Max Miller, who is now running for a U.S. House seat in Ohio with Trump’s endorsement. The seat is currently held by GOP Rep. Anthony Gonzalez, who announced his retirement after voting to impeach Trump for his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection.

In the book, Grisham claims Trump told Russian President Vladimir Putin at a 2019 summit in Japan that he would “act a little tougher” with him in front of the press, but that it was all for show.

“'It’s for the cameras, and after they leave, we’ll talk. You understand,'” Grisham quotes Trump as saying.

Grisham also writes that Trump was frequently inappropriate with her and other women working for the White House. She says he once described the size of his genitalia to rebut the account of adult film actress Stormy Daniels, and asked Miller, her then-boyfriend, if she was good in bed. She claims Trump was also obsessed with a young female press aide who he once brought to his cabin on Air Force One so he could “look at her [behind].”

And she strongly implies that Trump's surprise visit to Walter Reed medical center in 2019 — which set off speculation that he was ill — was simply for a routine colonoscopy (without naming the procedure). Trump, she writes, didn’t want it known that he would be having the procedure done, partly because he refused to transfer power to Vice President Mike Pence for even a short amount of time, and partly because he didn’t want to be made fun of by late night TV hosts.

Grisham also worked closely with first lady Melania Trump, serving as her spokesperson for much of the administration. In the book, Grisham details Melania’s ire toward her husband for his reported extramarital affairs and her growing withdrawal from life in the White House.

Grisham resigned from her role as the first lady’s chief of staff on Jan. 6, following the Capitol siege. In the book, the former aide claims she asked Melania if she wanted to send a tweet decrying the violence, an offer her boss declined.

According to reporting earlier this month from Politico, Grisham compared the first lady to Marie Antoinette, writing that she saw her like “the doomed French queen. Dismissive. Defeated. Detached.” Grisham said Melania agreed with her husband's conspiracy theories that "something bad happened" during the 2020 election and declined to invite incoming first lady Jill Biden for tea.

After taking over as the president’s third press secretary in July 2019, Grisham never held a press conference, and she was replaced by Kayleigh McEnany the following April. In the book, Grisham writes that she held no press conferences because she “knew that sooner or later the president would want me to tell the public something that was not true or that would make me sound like a lunatic.”

Before taking over as press secretary, Grisham had a history of lying to cover up for the Trumps. In one instance, she insisted that Donald Trump had visited Scotland prior to the Brexit vote in 2016 and predicted the result, even though the then candidate had arrived after the vote occurred. In another, she stated that the coat emblazoned with “I don’t care” that the first lady wore to a child detention center was “just a jacket,” a claim later refuted by Melania Trump herself.

Grisham has continued a trend of some former Trump staffers writing books that criticize the administration and family members. Others have leaned into their ties, including Grisham’s predecessor in the role, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who has since launched a gubernatorial campaign in Arkansas.

“The intent behind this book is obvious,” Melania Trump’s office said in a statement after one passage was leaked.

“It is an attempt to redeem herself after a poor performance as press secretary, failed personal relationships, and unprofessional behavior in the White House. Through mistruth and betrayal, she seeks to gain relevance and money at the expense of Mrs. Trump.”

A New York arbitrator has rejected former president Donald Trump’s claim that Omarosa Manigault Newman — a former contestant on “The Apprentice” and presidential aide — violated a nondisclosure agreement by writing a tell-all book about Trump.

The arbitrator declared the agreement was invalid because it was too vague to be enforced.

Arbitrator T. Andrew Brown ruled that Trump’s campaign would now have to pay Newman’s legal fees.

The best part is Trump paying her legal fees. He has bullied his way through life, and karma is coming to get him.

I wonder if that opens the floodgate to making the NDA worthless. Wonder if one case sets precedent.
