|
|
Hi All
I bought a long bed pickup to schlep all my gear to the beach. It could use a platform shelf inside to make gear storage easier. No such product exists: people build their own. I live in a small PDX apartment without a garage shop of tools: Anyone know someone who would be interested building a shelf for some dollars? |

Go with a 1.5" schedule 40 PVC, you can buy a tool to cut it without mess and a friction fit will do just fine, plus it won't rust or rot. |

Simple PVC to make, borrowing a circular saw, or use a hack saw, tape measure, not much else , I would glue together once fitted to size.
You would have something you made yourself _________________ K4 fins

I think the OP wants a platform in the bed of his pickup. But it isn't clear exactly. With 2x4's across the wheel wells and a plywood (perhaps) paltform on that? Leaves room under for gear storage and a sleep platform and or more storage on top. If the measurements are taken correctly he might go to Home Despot or Lowers and have them cut to size. I have a bed liner in my truck with 'built in' areas designed just for the 2x4's. I attached another small block of 2x4 to the bottom of the full width 2x4's to raise the bed another 1-1/2". Perfect for MY needs when camping. All my gear fits below. I can sleep on the platform. Same as when I windsurfed. All sails and gear below the platform.
Again, the OP hasnt made it clear what he wants. It could be just as you assume. That it's a storage shelf or shelves |

You would be surprised what you can do with a few simple battery powered tools. A 3 3/8" circular saw, a jigsaw, drill, and a pair of foldable plastic sawhorses is about all you need. When I built an interior into my van, I lived in an apartment just like you, but with battery powered tools you can work almost anywhere. I did much of my work right in the parking lot of my local Home Depot, and at a beach parking lot that I frequented a lot. With a good plan, you would be surprised how quickly you can build exactly what you need. |

If you had a shell canopy you'd be set. Not to mention you could live back there. |
