Two new studies are adding weight to the argument that cannabis legalization can significantly reduce opioid consumption. The research found that when states legalize marijuana, either medicinal or recreational, a drop in opioid prescriptions can be identified.

It's as if nobody in the state legislature has researched the failed history of price fixing, it never works. If this passes, expect long lines at your Dr.'s office and the hospitals.

California bill would create health care price controls

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - California's government would set prices for health care services under a measure in the state Assembly.

The bill introduced Monday comes amid a fierce debate in the Capitol about rising health care costs. It's likely to draw intense opposition from physicians, hospitals and other healthcare providers.

The measure by Democratic Assemblyman Ash Kalra of San Jose would affect private health plans, including those offered by employers and purchased by individuals. Prices would be set by an independent commission.

The measure is backed by several influential unions frustrated that health care costs are gobbling an increasing share of compensation.

Health care providers have long argued that price controls would encourage doctors to move out of state or retire, making it harder for people to see a physician when they're sick.

Don't worry NW, there will be no lines, because there will be no doctors. They will all leave the state ASAP....

Even more of a reason to have cross-state insurance with published prices for procedures. They will need to stop ripping people off or just leave their practice. Welcome to the new world Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

Anyone think this will fly? Freedom of speech on the way out?

Quote:
California State Senator Dr. Richard Pan (D-Sacramento) has proposed a bill, the “Online False Information Act,” that would require anyone who posts news on the Internet to verify their information through “fact-checkers.”

The bill, filed quietly in late February as SB 1424, requires all California-based websites to develop a plan to fight “fake news,” to use “fact-checkers,” and to warn readers — including via social media — of “false information.”

The bill reads as follows:
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
Title 14.5 (commencing with Section 3085) is added to Part 4 of Division 3 of the Civil Code, to read:
TITLE 14.5. False Information Strategic Plans
3085.

(a) Any person who operates a social media Internet Web site with physical presence in California shall develop a strategic plan to verify news stories shared on its Internet Web site.

(b) The strategic plan shall include, but is not limited to, all of the following:

(1) A plan to mitigate the spread of false information through news stories.
(2) The utilization of fact-checkers to verify news stories.
(3) Providing outreach to social media users regarding news stories containing false information.
(4) Placing a warning on a news story containing false information.

(c) As used in this section, “social media” means an electronic service or account, or electronic content, including, but not limited to, videos, still photographs, blogs, video blogs, podcasts, instant and text messages, email, online services or accounts, or Internet Web site profiles or locations.
The bill would arguably impose onerous costs on individuals and businesses alike, and would serve as a tool for censorship by subjecting dissenting opinions to review via “fact-checkers.”

It is not clear who would appoint the “fact-checkers.”

Couldn't decide, the racism thread or this thread, I decided this thread, it's just another half of a plan that Ca. is famous for.

College hosts no-whites-allowed pool party
April 13, 2018

A private college in California will be hosting a pool party later today at which white people will be excluded, with only “people who identify as POC” permitted to attend.
“POC” stands for “person of color.” The event will take place at Scripps College’s Sallie Tiernan Field House pool, according to The Claremont Independent.
A Facebook announcement of the event lists the party as being hosted by Café Con Leche, a student group identified in the post as “the badass Latinx at Scripps.”
“Bring your chanclas and the homies over to our nice ass resort pool, LET’S TAKE UP SPACE,” the announcement reads, advertising the event as “a safe space for…students that identify as POC to come together and build community.”

“Enjoy some yummy snacks, tunes that slappp, and the company of other POC,” the listing reads.
The announcement also advises attendees to anticipate “an anonymous Google form to notify us of people we should keep out <for the safety and comfort of all>!”
An anonymous student told The Independent that the party is meant to “promote inclusivity and congeniality between ethnic minorities.”
“Most POCs at any of the Claremont Colleges (which are historically PWIs (Predominantly White Institutions)) interact and enjoy interacting with people of all races (obviously including white people), but sometimes it’s nice to have a time to be with people who identify in the same or similar way that you do,” the student said.

Oh look, another "Johnny does it too" story. Don't you just love people that always appeal to the aspirational aspects of human nature?
