LakeSurf,

For your stated purpose, an inflatable windsup would work well. it is true that you would not get the same performance as a hard board, but for travel and to SUP or light wind sail, an inflatable makes sense. I own a Fanatic inflatable blend 11-2 just for that purpose. Primarily to the gulf coast of Florida to visit in-laws. Works well in flat water SUP mode and I use a 6.5 sail when the wind blows anywhere from 5-20 mph. I will also use it in the 1-3 ft surf common in that area. It does not plane like a hardboard but gets me on the water and is plenty fun. It does come with footstraps, but I have never found the need to use them. I will rent a short board if the wind is consistently over 15 mph.

Interesting comment. I added foot straps to a three years old WindSUP this year partly for the convenience of carrying my board with sail attached in and out of the water.

I use the inflatable windSUP in nonplaning conditions and small surf. No need for footstraps and I like to move around on the board in those conditions. If the wind is strong enough to be in the straps, I am using a windsurf board with foot straps. Maybe I will try the straps on the inflatable in stronger wind just for the experience.
