Currently living in Savannah but lived and sailed in charleston for years. Folly beach, head to the washout for wave sailing. Sullivan's Island is Station 29. A little room on the inside and then wave sailing outside the sandbars. In the harbor check out sunset park next to James island yacht club, Ft Moultrie on Sullivan's island(can be dangerous with tides and boat traffic) or downtown from the little beach on the battery. Check out www.iopweather.com for cams and wind reports. I think they have some launch info and pics on their links as well. Plenty of options, all wind directions. Good luck, September could be fun!

Milsurf thanks for the info, I will get a good detail map of the area and see where these places are. Do you know of any clubs in the area, or shops to buy from, these are always good leads. I'll be sure to heed the warnings and check out the site with the cams. Brian

There is a small contingent of us that sail around here, most people sail on Sullivans (around station 28.5-30) or IOP.
I sail occasionally on Folly after work, nothing special there though. Feel free to shoot me an email if you want to meet up for a session. Email address is username without the numbers at gmail.

Thanks for the info, what does (around station 28.5-30) mean? I figured out the IOP as Island of palms.
I'll keep the email info also. Thanks Brian

Foreacre, check out the attached screen shot from iWindsurf. On Sullivan's Island, the streets themselves are named stations --

Well thats easy enough to find. I just checked out Google earth,
I see the water tower near 28.5 and what looks like public access to the beach between houses in several spots, is that legal on street parking along Marshall blvd? Brian

Stupidly moved away but been windsurfing down there for years. Still probably average a successful trip about every other weekend through late summer. Know all the usual spots but have a few favorites on S.I. With the right wind direction and tide, the harbor can be great too but some local knowledge about where/when makes all the difference. Folly Beach not always my favorite for a variety of reasons but that's more a matter of convenience than conditions. Hit me back closer to September with a PM as I'll probably be around if the forecast looks good.
