Hello all...Having trouble with my harness lines, as the plastic part is bent out of shape and the lines are not hanging straight, causing problems getting in them without turning my body.

I know I am not doing anything when storing them, so I am asking for advice for that and how to fix the few pairs I have now. Should I be tying them flat and extended straight somehow?

Unfortunately, I leave my gear in a car that gets hot even in the Northeast.

Thanks in advance,

Sacandagalady

Spread the mounts wider apart, maybe 7" is enough to straighten the lines.

Are they simply twisted? Undo/remove one end and see whether they recover.

take an old lace or any other rope and loop through the harness line and around the opposite arm of the boom. tie the simplest possible not. repeat with other line tieing it to the opposite arm.So it is all flat . Store it like this after every session it and see what happens. Depending on how long they were tangled you may or may not see the desired result.

Thanks guys.....good advice...stretching them and/or tying them flat to the boom. I will give it a whirl. If plastic can bend out of shape, maybe it can bend back into shape.

I hung weights on some I had distorted from packing them

the rest.

Lines twist due to the friction between the plastic tube and the line weave itself. Most harness lines are asymmetrically woven like nearly all rope, with a right-hand or left-hand preference.

The harness line cover is a short part of a long spiral that also took on a small twist preference in manufacturing.

Sometimes these twist preferences interact to cause a harness line problem after a few sessions.

I find the only viable repair short of taking everything apart to be heating the line cover slowly and then turning it to remove the twist. Spray McLube Sailcoat in large amounts down the tube from both ends to reduce the friction between line and cover.

This method might take 20-30 minutes but you don't know whether it will work until sailing again! Sometimes the money spent on new lines provides a better value.
