Search the forum on the topic. It's been debated many times with no consensus.

Neither of the two companies you referred to offer cheap inexpensive booms. Neither does Chinook. You must always remember, you usually get what you pay for.

Some of the cheaper booms do last awhile because they flex more and avoid concentrated fatigue points. Chinook triple clamp is a good one.

That's good to know because I have one, and it seems to work just fine!

Boom design and construction has really come a long way over the past 5+ years or so. Many of the quirks with the early clamp on boom front ends have been tweaked and corrected. The continuous carbon tube construction of the front and rear ends have improved stiffness and durability. Some booms have loop an go rear ends to speed rigging time. Some offer smaller diameter grips for lower arm strain. You really can't go wrong with any of the booms mentioned above - the best is really a matter of personal preferences. All will last for many years with a little care. As far as best deals - you'll find that if you purchase several costly items from one dealer (e.g., sail, mast & boom), they'll sell you the items at a pretty good discount and likely free shipping.

Juvenile....
Who makes the best car?
Who makes the best stove?
Who makes the best socks?
Who makes the windows?
Only someone totally unawares would ask a question like that.

Why don't you just ask your buddy with all the booms?? He should be able to answer any questions you have, including your technique, maybe even let you try some of the older gear he should have laying around.
Idea

If you have solid gear that does the job you need it to do, you'll be fine. Lots of awesome sailors tear it up without the newest or best boards and rigs.

He just has a stack of Chinook aluminum booms because he refuses to pay $600+ for a boom.
