Hi Gang,
The massive upper high pressure at ≈ 18,000 ft. continues to produce heat and subsidence that has crushed the marine layer. But as the tiny Golden Gate eddy gets reinforced by huge low pressure the southerly winds and fog will create a marine surge either Friday PM or Saturday AM.
I still can not nail down the timing and this animated blog shows some of the major players. But it a pretty safe bet that we will see some Rio Daze this weekend.

Mike,
Maybe it arrived a day early?
Check out Berkeley graph for today/Thursday.
Maybe an analysis of what transpired to give us that welcome blast?
Cheers, David

Hi David,
Yep the Berkeley winds are strong but the big surge of marine air has not arrived yet.
The winds until 4PM today were a sort of "dry marine surge" since the upper high has brought the inversion down to zero feet according to the Bodega 449Mhz profiler. But there is a solid low streamer of fog running through the Golden Gate at the moment towards the East Bay.
Now at 5:45 the fog is forming a Berkeley T and you know what that means for Berkeley winds.
So I suspect the big marine surge will hit tomorrow.
Maybe I will have the answer by the 7PM forecast.
Mike

Mike,
Why did this latest massive heat bubble (which was almost as strong if not stronger than the late June event) not end up in a Marine Surge? In fact the winds have been pretty hokey throughout this whole event at SI. I actually heard of sort of a "reverse" Marine Surge yesterday where stratus rushed DOWN the coast rather than up the coast.

Nice!
Used to sail there a lot - excellent speed run venue.
Haven't trusted the wind lately, but maybe now that Pt. Isabel seems to be steadying out I'll head over.
Cheers, David

Mike,
How about a rigorous analysis on why Isabel has been defying iWind predictions past few days? Several superb days in a row now.
I've been blaming it on Fickle Eddie......
Cheers, David
