I finally got around to building a rack for my van. Basically copied the one dennis_c posted on here a few years ago. Makes life so much easier, I particularly love being able to leave the fin on my main board, but also just being able to grab the sail or boom I want without digging through a pile of stuff.
I am now concerned about all the water that drips off my gear onto the floor after a session. There are a few holes in the floor from past projects, which I was hoping would act as drains. Unfortunately, my driveway does not tilt in the appropriate direction for this to really work, although I suppose I could make additional holes in the right spots. Still seems like this is a recipe for rust around the holes, unless I paint/coat them with something. I also got a bunch of salt water on the floor in front of the driver seat, from driving away in my drysuit/booties.
Do we have a best practice for dealing with this? I suppose the intermediate step is to just put towels down temporarily while things dry out. On a side note, is it just me or does salt water take FOREVER to evaporate?

Do you have any pictures if it or a link to the dennis_c post? I searched for it but couldn't locate it.

We have a similar PVC rack in our ProMaster, but it holds 5 boards horizontal, 2 Formula on rail, will plenty of room for changing and 2 extra boards stuffed along the driver's side cargo area.
Got 14 masts at the bottom, but room only enough for 11 sails.
Drainage and waterchannelling with PVC mat on cargo bed.

"On a side note, is it just me or does salt water take FOREVER to evaporate?"
Salt crystals pull any humidity out of the air, and condenses on the surface.
Salt water will evaporate really quickly in the desert.
Have a beer after you are done sailing, but before you de-rig, it will give you time for the sail to dry out enough so that it won't drip.
Keep the van doors closed at home if it's foggy, the salt crystals can turn the inside into a swamp if you don't.

Ha! Looking at the pic, the only things I still have are the HPL booms - now with Streamlined heads - the tan hamper and the long-handled windshield squeegee. Toughest thing to "engineer" was the PVC pipe that the wetsuit is hanging from. It kept the doors open and parallel, even in a good wind.

when I had a full-size van, I always thought of doing some sort of PVC curtain rod to span the rear or side doors that would also include curtains for an easy-to-setup wetsuit changing room.

dennis_c,
Do you have an image of, or how did you attach the PVC spanning the doors?

To avoid zip ties I inserted the pipe insulation onto the pipe before gluing the joints.
