I am kind of surprised that others have not posted anything yet but the GGNRA is currently in the process of repaving the path/promenade that runs past the East Beach up to the Warming Hut.

Phase 1 of this work started this past Monday and is scheduled to last six weeks. During this period, about half of the parking and direct access to the beach is gone. The only way to the beach is via a narrow 5ft wide path to the west of the grassy berm that is also being used by joggers, dog walkers, and bikes. Word on the street is that the situation sucks.

Without going into some of the political backstory of this process, it may be wise for those thinking of visiting Crissy in the next month and half to think about alternate sailing venues.

please share with the boardsailor community that we are working to open an additional access point to the beach (next to the grassy bluff) as early as tomorrow afternoon. In order to do so, we are accelerating construction at that end. This will require temporary closure of the current beach access and the current detour between the parking lot and the promenade. That closure will begin at 7AM tomorrow and we expect to reopen after a few hours. Here is the notice we are circulating about these changes:

Notice of Additional Access to East Beach
The first phase of the Crissy Field promenade repair is now underway. We are working to open an additional access point to East Beach. The new access point, adjacent to the western end of the parking lot, may open as soon as Thursday afternoon. The additional access point will remain open as construction allows.

Beach and Promenade Access from the East Beach Parking Lot Limited the Morning of April 6
In order to create the additional beach access, construction crews must close the current access point to East Beach for several hours the morning of Thursday, April 6, as well as the current pedestrian detour between the parking lot and the promenade. The work will begin around 7 a.m. Limited access to East Beach will remain open from the east via the San Francisco Bay Trail.

Passed by today April 11. No change: still requires a nice double walk to the old launching point! Shocked

May 8: the temporary access is closed again. Went there today and only way to the beach is to use the single track access parallel to the mound. Shocked

What about parking further north at the old Coast Guard Station and launching from the Gulf Fallalons Marine Mammal center?

They will give you a ticket if you try launching from up there. Parking is kind of a pain in the ass as well. I have parked at the lot behind the Sports Basement and walked across the field with my gear and it wasn't a big deal.

That's what I do. I park next to the gymnastics building. Time the gusts and launch. One shot and you're under the bridge. The St. Francis beach is excellent.
