In case you haven't heard (or seen), the launch at Arlington has been vastly improved for the new season.

killer! I never sailed from the old launch... always went to Roosevelt. What's the drive time savings for Arlington vs Roosevelt?

Thanks go to the Port of Arlington and CGWA for contributing $5000 towards the project.

Drive time from HR is maybe 10 minutes faster that going to Roosevelt but the real advantage is being able to launch right into the best swell on the river rather than sailing across, and lots of time saved if you need to go in to change sail sizes.

wow, that's great. thanks for the info.

My first time at Roosevelt/Arlington was the last day of my first ever trip to the Gorge. 3.7/75l... all borrowed gear. Sailed over to the Arlington side where there was bus-sized lines of huge, glassy swell. My first "best day ever".

That was also the first Gorge trip for Rob Warwick... must have been around 2001 or so. We were watching Tonky Frans throw duck tacks at the hatch... i don't think we'd ever seen a duck tack before, but his were so clean and smooth... really inspired us to get into freestyle. I think Rob stayed an extra week in the Gorge, and every year his trip got 1-2 weeks longer until he never bothered coming back.

A story as old as windsurfing, for so many people. Spring, Summer,
and Fall (personally I like Wintering over in Utah, where I work to
provide myself with beer and gear)

Hedz up out east. The Corpse of Engineers has warned the boating public (hey ... that's US!) that an oversized cache of oversized logs has built up behind McNary Dam (the one above Arlington) and will be released upon us any day now (maybe already).

Never mind that they're just kicking that can down to the next dam ... at Rufus ... which ALSO belongs to the Corpse. I guess they hope that if two of them sink, they're saving themselves some work. Or maybe they want to make Spring Runoff at the Columbia River Bar even more exciting than usual. Or maybe it's just a turf war; each section of the river is managed by a different subsection of the Corpse.

I was at Arlington last weekend. Solid 3.7. The new launch is really sweet! Don't forget to renew your CGWA membership!
Another cool thing about Arlington is that if you take a break, it's an amazing place to be a spectator -- all of the action is right there!
