Wondering if anyone has tried to mount two booms on one mast like this...

http://www.windsurf.co.uk/windsurfing-childs-play/

Kevin Pritchard did a similar thing in a video he shared when taking his nephew sailing...

Any tips on how to do this?

I have no experience with this, but.... it your sail cutout is moderately low,
and your boom heads is articulated, you could just angle the lower boom
up and tie it off to the same clew grommet. My Northwaves have 2
Grommets (located one below the other (pretty sure that's not what
their intended purpose is), but they'd work for that.

If you look closely at the picture in your first link, they didn't mount two booms on one mast, they actually stuck two rigs on the board and put the kid's rig "inside" the adult rig.

Yes, I've done it. All you need is a razor blade to slice the mast pocket open on both side low enough to mount the kid boom. Use a lighter to melt the threads to hinder unravelling. A trip to a sailmaker can inexpensively turn the cave-man cut into something more permanent.

One point of caution: Do not tighten the kid boom to much unless you know with certainty that your mast can take the compression load at the chosen attachment point. The kid will not be doing much other than hanging on for a ride so a super-tight connection that we expect for ourselves isn't required to share the fun. I do recommend using a skinny mast as they are very thick walled. Combine that with a shim and little chance of damage exists.

I further suggest you try the entire thing without a harness the first time. I didn't and bumped the back of my kid's head too many times. They key is to rotate your hips and move your lines back a bit. After all, the kid will be adding force that you will feel as "front hand" so a bit of fiddling is well worth it if you really want speed.

I cut my mast sleeve just like Dan said, when I sailed with my daughter years ago. But wait, there's a better way!

Very clever method shown by Eddy Patricelli in this video. No cutting required. Have fun! (This is from the Big Winds web site page, "about us".)

Thanks. That's a far better solution than cutting!
