Re:HN on Sunday. How does the tide affect the spot? Will it be OK in the afternoon when I can get there?

I'm game for Sunday am. Any tide is fine at HN. Depending on location of bars, waves may be better at certain tides but I haven't sailed there this year so I can't say what tide will be best.

Paul

I think you can sail at HN any tide.
Might be better at high tide with bigger swell.
But if windy getting though break at low tide is not too bad.

hey all
I'm also thinking about going Sun AM to HN, but was wondering how the conditions would be for wave newbie. I'm pretty comfortable on my 85 FSW and like playing in swell, but have only been in waves a few times. I tried to find a wave forecast and read that South Shore Beach approximates HN swell ? If so it's calling for 2-3 foot waves. West wind, side to side on. Sounds like it should be manageable for my skill level ?

Also a wave noob (though I've gone out in the size in YT video but I have a feeling it could be bigger than that at HN tomorrow), how is South Shore Beach (by Fogland)? for Sunday AM?

cool videos !
hmm, might be too big for me at HN tomorrow.
Anyone have thoughts on Sand Hill Cove Beach/Captain Roger Wheeler beach, near point judith. I've head it can get big swell in there, and have been there twice, but with a west wind and the jetties, it probably won't get too big there ?

Horseneck is not likely to be huge tomorrow as there is very little groundswell at the moment and wind has been WNW, so no pre-build of windswell. I live on Horseneck Road, and check the wavebreak regularly. It will be high tide midday so the outer sandbars won't be working. Usually, we prefer low tide for more variety in the wave options up and down the beach.
Compared to South Shore Beach mentioned above, Horseneck is a much easier launch, less pounding shore break. And the waves on the outside are more fun at Horseneck if you don't want to come back inside.
Unfortunately, I probably won't be there tomorrow but will sail this afternoon if the wind fills in.

Ooops. I need to revise my earlier post. I sailed Horseneck late this afternoon. There IS some windswell building, despite the fact that the wind was WNW, 5.2ish late. So there will be some short period waves, not huge in a Donald-sort-of-way , but the short period piece may make it challenging as it's supposed to be WSW or SW. That's more difficult - more onshore - than todays WNW side shore wind.

If you do go, dNB Burgers is New Bedford has staggeringly good gourmet hamburgers, great fries, and an OK beer list. 22 Elm Street. New Bedford, MA. Definitely worth it. We had dinner there tonight.
