Planning to drive down to NJ coast early Sunday morning. Anyone planning to sail. Right now I am thinking of Seaside Park or further south towards Barnegat Light at Island Beach State Park.

Never been on the Jersey shore before so have no clue where windsurfers go for a northerly on the ocean.

Lars,

if the wind is North and depending where you are traveling from
here are a few spots to consider:

Seaside Park via top of the mast Ocean side- 23rd ave is good on N and NE with offshore sandbar, only draw back is there can be a lot of fishermen this time of year, which takes away the inside sections... off shore sandbar a lot of fun, good spot for N or NE, which is good

Sandy Hook, via Sea Gulls nest, one parking lot north of parking lot C can also be good on North or North East
Seven Presidents skatepark in Long Branch- bueno

LBI- Barnegat is good but the walk from car to ocean is long and brutal with windsurf rig and board, so Island Surf and Sail in Ship Bottom, is good for the ocean and min walk, if NE Holgate south tip of the island is fun as well, one rock jetty on inside by jetty wall, caution

all spots usually have ripping current depending on tide so go with a floaty board and bigger sail, you want to be lit on your rig to get thru shorebreak, but waves small so should not be an issue

a few spots to consider, tear it up and enjoy

John

Thanks John,

How about south of Seaside toward Barnegat Light. Looks like there is a spot near where the road ends. Looks as though you could sail on the inside as well if it is too rough.

the island is pretty much sailable from top of the mast 23rd ave in seaside park all the way down to the end to the barnegat inlet, so really a matter of preference on local and or if the sandbars are working in that area

yeah forecast is great for the next 2 days and low tide at the hook at 8:05 am and hihg at 2;30 so the tide is incoming and in our favor, waves will build quickly if we get the wind they are calling for....... should be fun in NJ

tear it up...........

Decided to sail in the bay for a while. Not a day for sailing solo in the ocean. Big surf! Will check later to see if anyone shows up....

Lars,

looks like you scored a lot of water time good to hear

that area can be solo and no one around,

Sandy Hook is good on North and NorthEast Ocean side and usually a good crew of people on the water kiters and windsurfers, which always helps with the safety factor, also good surf spots which equals good wave sailing spots...

the lefts yesterday from the cove downwind to parking lot A, SH bridge, gaiters and sea bright were tons of fun about chest high to head high with over head sets on the outside,

wind was 20-30 and then back to 15 wicked gusty, great day waited out the rain and scored 2:30-4:30 sess

strong N and NE always a lot fun in NJ and monmouth county locals
