Thi doesn't just apply to windsurfing of course, but I'm wondering what people do with their electronic car keys when they go out on the water.
For me, it's the only non-windsurfing thing I bring, but I haven't found any great waterproofing solutions out there.
What I ended up doing was putting it in one of those heavy duty ziplock cases for credit cards (see picture) and using barge cement to seal it up; I just stick the whole thing in my wetsuit. But it's not entirely satisfactory...
What have you come up with?

if you have a valet key for the door latch, it's all you need. tie it to a lanyard, and wear it around your neck under a rash guard or wet suit. simple.

The simplest and easiest solution is to use a small flat plastic (or whatever) pouch with string loop around your neck, buy a packet of small sandwich bags, pop the key into one (or a couple) of them each time and slide into pouch with string around neck, and shove down inside the top of your wetsuit. Been doing it for years, and never got a key wet yet.

Beware of just using an ordinary non-electronic door key, while leaving your proper key either inside or somewhere on, the car. Our insurance companies (European) will null and void your insurance should you do so, and the car is stolen. We get two keys with the car, and each must be accounted for in case of theft!

SEARCH the forum for several prior threads on the topic with many solutions. Try key words such as valet, electronic, key, etc.

Stick it behind the rear tire, after I lock the car. Thieves are dumb, there's usually people around, if there's not people around....NO ONE is going to be around, and this is Kansas....we can leave stuff un-locked.

On top of the rear tire works for me. I just make sure that no one is watching when I put it there!

If you have a trailer hitch there is a nice little safe that you can install for your keys. 😊

Make a non electronic copy, carry that one with you.
Leave the electronic key inside the car/van.

Most electronic keys have a non-electronic key hidden inside the electronic fob so you can still get into the car when the battery dies. Make a copy of the metal key and take that with you or put it in a lockbox. Then hide the expensive electronic key inside the car as Fathom said.

Some cars however, have a proximity sensor so when the electronic key is near the car, you can un-lock the doors with a button on the door handle. The problem is that if you hide the electronic key inside the car, anyone can still un-lock the door by pushing the button on the door handle. One solution is to put the electronic key inside a realitor lockbox and hide the lockbox somewhere away from the car, like under a tree.
