I am headed to Cape Cod this weekend. I was a descent intermediate windsurfer 10 years ago and have not windsurfed New England for 15 years. Am thinking of going to Kalmus on Sunday. Does parking fill up in the morning? What time should I plan on being there? Can kids swim away from windsurfing/kiteboarding? Apologies if this information is posted elsewhere- so many forum topics.
Thank You

Kalmus is a good place for windsurfing families. The swimmers have a seperate area from the windsurfers ( no kiting allowed during the day).
If it's not a good beach day, probably won't be that crowded. If a hot nice beach day, if you get there at 10 am ,probably no problem. |

hmmm - boy o boy
Sunday on paper is looking great. The wind direction is a big fat question mark.
2 of our tribe sailed Nauset Wednesday night. CG was great first thing that morning. Exciting -- good size surf, aggressive seal packs, sharks sightings, the works! |

For Sunday, the wind direction will be NE to ENE, though, which is offshore in Kalmus, and very gusty. You could theoretically sail from the little beach at the Lewis Bay side, but there are lots of boats anchored close to shore, and you'd cross the shipping lane if you venture out further. Since there probably will be tons of boat traffic this week end, that's a bad idea.
In general, the beaches on the Cape Cod Bay side like Chapin have better wind in NE. I never go there in the summer, though, so I don't know what it looks like. Probably tons of kiters at Chapin, and no protected swimming area (?). |
