If you have something cheap/free let me know. I need something non fancy to turn into a spinnaker pole on my hobie. It just needs to function as a pole. I hear of people basically giving the old SDM glass poles away because no one really sails with them now but all the used shops I find only have the carbon stuff for sale in their used gear.
I'm in Ocala, Florida and would be willing to drive a little to get it or pay for shipping depending. Thanks in advance. |

Matt-
Be careful using an old mast that's been sitting around. If it sat out in the sun (especially in Florida) for many years, it may be totally sun fried and likely to break. Not to mention that it would likely be covered in thousands of tiny fiberglass splinters.
A carbon mast/pole would be just as good if not better than a fiberglass one (lighter & stronger). Just be careful attaching hardware to the pole because composites (carbon or fiberglass) do not like point loads. You may need to add some local reinforcements to make it strong enough.

I made a jib for my Zuma, Chevy version of Lazer,
I think I would not use the old fiberglass mast .
You should be able to find a newer , carbon 50% or better used one.
You don't say how long..?
Our mast go from 310cm. Up to 550cm, newer will be 2 piece.
Most popular will be 430//460 cm. divide by 2.54 to convert to inches.
I have a 400 standard diameter powerex , made in USA , 55% carbon. Older mast only used on Sunday's , ..lol.. Great cond.
$125 shipped, PM if interested. _________________ K4 fins

I'm in Gainesville and have a couple mast tops because I broke the bottoms.
They are 90-100% carbon. Email me at jpellegrinoart1@comcast.net if you want them. |
