Revising an old thread.

My Futura is still under repair but I am still looking to sail in the meantime. I'm digging out the Starboard 105 Hypersonic which my wife usually sails.

This is a strange board. I've never ridden this board before and am looking for some feedback on setup and general use.

For a 140 lb rider, 7.5 sail, in light to moderate wind (+- 12-13 knots) What footstrap position and fin size do you recommend? Should I put the straps all the way back given my light weight and the shortness of the board? I can use the factory 34cm fin or, I also have a 38cm and 42 cm Makani Kauila Freerace. Which find would do the trick?

Any tips on adjusting to this peculiar board as a light rider is appreciated. I've read this board requires some "attention" while sailing.

Thanks.

42cm, outboard middle straps. Mast base just forward of middle, boom higher than you are used to. It'll want pumping, likely from the front strap. Hook in too early and you'll just stall it/catapult.

HS 105, straps where they were , when I purchased in April. Wonderful board, needs nothing special in the way of anything, 5.9m , 34cm fin. Straps now gone, they sucked, Starboard but original and sucked then

Get on the board and ride it. Fast dead easy to ride, its basically a mini Formula board.

I concur with what U2U2U2 said about it riding like a little formula board.
I used to have the 133 ltr version, and the thing really loved to lock in
with outboard straps. 34cms seems about right, but you can go bigger,
it'll just make it difficult to get downwind.

An easy fast ride (once you're in the straps). Surprisingly planey too.

Small fin cause this was in OBX sound , rather shallow in places. Would def go longer for a larger sail.

Pumps on the plane . Takes one run to get used to outboard straps, not much option. Wide arc for jibes, unreal awesome board. Great fun . Seems larger than 105L, very easy to ride.
