While the 3S is on your list, it's a different board than a Freeride.

Just Tabou 'speak' the Rocket is the Freeride platform.

Don't confuse this to mean the 3S isn't your ticket to ride.

The 3S in smaller sizes is more a wave board, well more ware oriented.
The Rocket in smaller is more a FSW.

NONE applied to Rocket Wide, which is different yet.

Can we infer that you might suggest a Rocket 95 or 105 as a FSW board for lake riders?

It's a option , that will have earlier planing and speed than the 3S. Tabou not being the only option . I have had , 3S, 87,96, Rocket 115, 135, 145.
Photo is a 135Rocket, that sails like a135, turns like a 105. Course not for everyone. Another chapter.

A option much like the new Wide boards, again not for everyone

3s, I have a 116 and 96 and love them both. They're high performance without feeling high strung, slice through chop like butter and boy do they love to execute a smooth jybe.

I might also add Simmer Style Helix 105 to the list. I have a 95 that I use here in the SF Bay Area and love it (disclaimer: I am a Simmer Distributor). It comes with 3 boxes so that you can use it as a single or tri-fin. I have used it in both configurations, and it works very well either way. Tri fin loosens up a bit, and sits in the water slightly different...just a different ride.

You can see the board here: http://simmerstyle.com/boards/product.aspx?modelNr=5082

I have 85s and 95s in stock, but can have a 105 drop shipped to your doorstep. Feel free to call me with any questions.

Had the 2010, 2012, and 2015 Rocket 115 LTD and the Rocket 95.. For lite wind gotta go fast with little effort back and forth sailing, the Rocket is the bench of the freeride boards. Has been for a very long time. Stepping down to the 95 Rocket seems like the right choice. Until you ride the 3s. When the wind hits 5.5 conditions, even the lakes start getting some chop. The 3s is much smoother, turns better, just as fast and just more fun. I think the step tail cut outs look funny but are the key to the 3s popularity. Pretty much every slalom board has them so they must work.

one of the original boards on the list was cross 114.

every time i demo it out, the rider comes back with smiles.

dunno who may have ridden what out there in www.land, but those that may have hacked away at it may have an axe to grind or something?????

whatever board you may want, get a demo before you squeeze the trigger. a lot of the advice on this forum may be highly suspect.

Top speed will be compromised, again , more drag, again fin selection.

Since one of your requirements is a slower board because you were afraid of the speed in higher winds U2 has your ticket. The slowest board I have ever sailed was a quad. A multy fin could be your answer.

This quad, in the words of a mate who rode it, you can't tell it's a quad.
It was not hampered by the lack of dedicated weed fins in Hatteras either?

On either a Tri or quad the fins, placement is important.

In a revisit to this thread I'm getting closer to buying a board for this spring.

My needs have not changed, I'm 2 pounds stronger Very Happy .

They chopped the nose off the 3S and I've read some reviews that it is harsher so now I'm considering a Goya One in 115 or 105. Any thoughts on the Goya One in larger sizes? Thanks

If you are not going to use the board a lot then I would go used and save the price difference. I have read the early reviews on the new 3S boards regarding harshness and would want to hear other reviews before taking that plunge. A used 106 or 96 3S would be perfect for you, depending on whether you want to emphasize the 5.0 or 6.5 end of your desired range. The Goya One boards are also very good but I believe more wave oriented than what you need.
