All,

If anyone is interested, they have posted the 100%Construction Documents and the public comments for the Crissy Field renovation at the links below.

Firstly, thanks for all the comments that everybody submitted. As you go through the comments, it is pretty clear that our effort and outreach to the community had some good effects.

As far as the improvements go, I didn't see anything particularly jarring.

1. Re-surface/reseal/restripe the ashpalt in the lot,
2. Add lane markers in the back aisle/entry/exit aisles
3. Add stop signs at those two dangerous intersections at the entry and exits into the lot
4. There is going to be a low planting fence around those grassy areas between the parking lot and the promenade. I think this was a response to concerns about sand blowing into them right now
5. They are adding another paved path from the bathrooms to the promenade which will add another more direct path to the beach from the rigging area.
6. It appears that all the grassy areas are to remain but there is no indication as to what sort of remediation/ re-turfing of these areas may be
7. All the benches and picnic tables are to be refurbished.
8. The aformentioned grassy area between the promenade and parking is going to be reduced from 14ft to 9ft wide.

The only thing that gives me pause is reference to an Alternates Schedule on sheet G0.02 that is not included in the posted set. We really need to understand what these proposed alternates may be and if they have any adverse impacts to us. There are also sheets in the construction documents that are not posted that would be helpful for us to understand the complete scope of the renovation and ensure that the NPS is not trying to slip any design changes under the radar.

I have not read everything in the above links in detail so if somebody comes across something of particular concern or impact to our constituency, please share it with us.

The diagrams in Attachment D show all of the east beach grass parking and rigging area to be fenced off with post-and-cable fencing. This elminates some 200 parking spots that are used preferentially every day. Time to raise hell.

Dear Park Friend:
The National Park Service is pleased to report that we have completed environmental compliance as well as final construction drawings for the Crissy Field Centennial Repair Project. For more information about the project, including the project description, design drawings, and the public comment report, please visit the project page.

Project Goals
The primary goal of this project is to address deferred maintenance on Crissy Field by resurfacing the 1.5 mile long Promenade, repairing the East Beach Parking Area, and better addressing stormwater runoff.

Next Steps
We expect construction to begin in early 2017. In order to minimize the impacts of construction, we plan to reach out to park visitors in advance regarding the construction schedule and develop detours where appropriate.

For questions about this project, please email goga_planning@nps.gov.

Fineprint-It is a temporary construction fence. Work is scheduled to start this fall after Fleet Week (the unofficial end of regular wind down there) We are still asking for more detail but I couldn't find anything problematic compared to what was originally proposed. We still need them to restore the lawns and turn the darn shower back on.
