Thanks Craig, I will be mindful of this next time. My arms do tend to feel overworked at the end of a long session, so I think I am definitely not sitting in the harness completely yet. I notice in the picture earlier on in the thread that my legs are quite bent, compared to my friend to the right of me who has been sailing for far longer than me. I am bending down because I feel that I have to just to push the rig forward a bit to get it heading downwind. I suppose my fin (40cm) is a bit big too which probably is not helping matters.

Its hard to tell from the picture. But if your in both straps and planning, your sail is way sheeted out, your arms are doing a ton
of work and your lines look long and to far forward. Again, just a snap shot of a second in time so its hard to say...

You gotta stand up and lean against the sail like the other guy and maybe you're sailing in the wrong direction compared to the guy that knows how to sail??

Your boom is too low....look at it's position in the sleeve opening compared to the other sailer. Long lines mean high boom. And that is what you want.

both sailors have too short of lines. one on left has boom too low.

in florida, esp this time of year, we have to pump to plane. that does not happen by hooking in first.

boom is so low and being hooked has you sailing defensively by sheeting out to keep from getting catapulted. nice gear like that should plane really easily, IF you pump out of the harness hook, get in the straps then hook.

with boom higher, and lines longer, you can close the gap, and go even faster. additionally, with gap closed, one can glide thru lulls with apparent wind.

A picture in this case was worth nearly 1000 words. Thanks for all the feedback. It seems like the overwhelming consensus is that my boom is too low. I will work on that element of my tuning and also move my lines back slightly so I am not under-sheeting all the time. Thanks everyone!
