Mc Lube sailkote is the s_hit!! I use the liquid on masts (except where boom attaches,, of course). spray it on all pulley systems also.

back in the 80's, I was a broker's rep for a boat called the Impulse 26. I treated all the sails, mast, and spreaders with mclube. In one race, we were up against the boat's designer in the same boat and sails. I got a not great start (not a normal occurence in those days) and ended up behind the other boat, the wind lightened up and we were able to sail right past the boat w/o mclube on the rig and sails. all sail settings were as close as possible to being identical. you draw your own conclusions about its effectiveness.

WhiteVan--So Your're saying McLube allows the sails on a racing sailboat to react better to the wind and be faster, since the frictional surfaces glide better? Sail against mast, sail against spreaders etc. And I was thinking the only benefit was easier sliding of mast into sail. Evidently our typical windsurfing application of McLube (slide mast into sail) is just an offshoot of it's primary purpose then.
