Any of you fine folks have any experience with having this done or doing it yourself? My wife is a bit of an artist and I would love to have her work on a board of mine.

I'd imagine sharpie then some coat over it? I have no idea. I'd like to hear your input.

As long as it's not on that plastic board. NOTHING sticks to polyethylene for long.

Or has modern chemistry solved that problem? It's been several hundred years since I tried it.

There was an article about how it is done in the ESM free surf magazine. An artist in NJ does amazing work. If you can find that article, he does share some tips.

I would not be against her trying her skills out on the poly Board Iso, but you are probably right about t maybe not sticking for long.

I'm gonna look up that article Ukka. I'm interested in having her do some doodles. She thinks she's terrible but I love her work, and her so it's a win win. Or wil be if it's possible.

If you have that link handy I'd take it. I'm gonna google it, but I think google hates me.

Seems like a (permanent) sharpie would work. Could be fun to try, but
might look a little trailer park(depends on the artist, I'm a Banksy fan for
example, but again he's a spray kinda guy).

I've done several of my own boards, but I taped off areas and
sprayed in the graphics, this requires you to think in kind of negative
space. Then clear coated, and then added new non skid(into the
clear coat). T'was fun for me, maybe so for your wife. I also
designed my own graphics for a custom board as a full length
sticker, which I applied while the board was being made (before the final
clear coat/nonskid). It's good to be involved with your board maker ;*)
That is the board you see in my icon(several years retired now).

My next foray (if it ever happens) will be computer printed on rice paper,
and then applied during the final coats on another custom board. But
I might be dead before I get to try that, cause my latest board is only
2 seasons old, and will probably last plenty more years.

The permanent markers won't stay. I use those to write the date I purchased the board, I renew almost yearly. A clear cost would help.

Some of these are stickers .. For smaller areas I use spray cans, the plastic suitable paint , from Walmart, is my fav, spend a dollar more for a better grade of paint.

This tends to scratch some on the bottom , as I don't layer the paint, increase weight too much.

Re sharpies, you might want to test the oil-based pens, which are much more permanent than the normal "permanent" markers. I haven't used them on a board, but people swear by them plastic, pottery, metal, etc. They're filled with paint instead of ink.

You might try "paint pens". They should be available on Ebay like these
