Hi Gang,

Did you notice that the Bay Area forecasts for the next few days look especially wishy washy?

There is a corny old saying in meteorology: "A Cut-Off Low is a weatherman's woe"

Hi Chris,

Yes, the upper level high pressure in the animation below over the mid USA is an Omega Block. Such blocks also tend to stall the passage of weather systems.

Both Cut-Off Low and Omega Blocks are becoming much more common than in past decades since both are produced by the elongated upper trough and upper ridges discussed in the blog.
