ICE sailing is IN for everywhere in New England right now, lots of premium places to sail!
Here is a quick round up of locations.

Long Pond Lakeville, 7" perfect black ice
Lake Quannapowitt, Wakefield
Webster Lake west Mass
Lake Massabesic NH
Lake Winnipesaukee NH...the 'broads'
Sebago-Jordon Bay
Lake Champy VT

...and way too many small ponds to list.

but the award for nicest ice and wind goes to Worden Pond RI, check out this sick speed run done last Friday!

https://vimeo.com/117026251

This 50 knot run did not end so well ..doing the "mashed potato crash" and nearly flung off the ice into the reeds! Shocked

The ONLY place that does NOT have ice is the CAPE.

Outlook is good to great for next 2 weeks!
I plan to hang at Long Pond for a while.
Watch for hazards! That place has lots of pressure ridges.

If you have a windsurf rig all you need is an ice board. Much higher speeds are easily achieved than on the water and with much smaller sails (sail in the video is a 4.0). You can go fast and have fun in 10mph wind! This is also a great way to practice your sail handling skills. Duck jibes/tacks, 360s, and many other freestyle moves are much easier on a tiny sail in light wind. We have a hardcore group of Southern RI ice boarders and extra boards are available if you'd like to give it a try. PM me if you're interested.

These days, when it gets this cold I'm more focused on the mountains. But awhile back I was invited to try ice boarding on Lake Champlain with some local sailors. Sailing on ice is so much easier than in water, you can go really fast with almost no effort, and carving jibes is awesome! Here is some video I shot to capture the excitement.....

Very nice dawg, but I'm guessing "awhile back" was last century. There's been a lot of progress and new technology since then !! You should check it out again since we've currently got the best ice this century!

We have been snowed out for a couple weekends, but there will be a LOT of ice coming up to end our season! Ice is thicker than I have ever seen for 30+ years.

Here is a cool video collection for the season so far!
Can't Stop! Cool
