I dabbled a couple years with 8+ sized sails back in the early 2000's.
Using an Easy UP, my thighs would cramp by the 4th uphaul.
Using my arms, my back would get tired, my shoulder's ached, and my forearms started to feel the early effects of cramping after 5+ lits.
So, better to use both methods, but not have to rely on ONE uphaul method, for me. |

I have easy uphauls on my 8.4, 9.2 and 11.0. Seat harness with low hook. They work great with no strain on my back. It's all legs until the mast tip is about 3' out of the water, then arms, back and legs together because at that angle, you lose some leverage with legs only.
All my big sails are race sails with big luff sleeves. Even though they are petty much sealed from the water, you don't want to leave them in the water for long or you will be lifting a LOT more weight (they will eventually flood).
I would never consider a higher hook because there is no need, at least for me. And I am 69 years old. |

I think part of my problem is a short inseam and a long trunk so a reasonably high boom gives me a lower Easy-Uphaul angle..and somewhat less leverage. Like everything else in windsurfing a few centimeters makes a difference.
Lowering my chin high boom should help with uphauling too. |
