I haven't seen any windsurfers around the LA beaches - is it not allowed? If so, does the ban apply to the entire Los Angeles beach front, and is full-time, or are there exceptions, like maybe weekdays?
I know about Marina del Ray, but I have heard windsurfing is not allowed/recommended on weekends due to heavy boat traffic. Is that actually enforced, because on any given Saturday the marina is full of small dinghies, and kayaks. Why should windsurfing be any different?
Of course, Cabrillo beach is the ideal location in SoCal, but getting there in weekday rush hour traffic is just not practical.

I live near LAX, and work in Santa Monica. In terms of skill, I'd say intermediate (15 knot winds, waterstarts, small waves).

It is 45 minutes from LAX to Cabrillo in rush hour traffic (105 to 110, don't take the 405). If you work in SM, your best bet is to head up to Leo since it blows later there.

I hear Topanga is often sailable as well though I have not gone out there. The Traffic from Santa Monica along PCH can be bad unless you can leave work early. Typically the wind at Leo comes on about 4 and blows until dark.

Mmmmm, Leo Carillo! Very difficult to forecast, but amazing when it's good! Watch for Surfers Point at Seaside Park to get over 13, then watch for Leo to start an hour later, jump in your car & go!

Surfer's Point is starting to look good right now (11:05 am)! I'm off at 2:30!

Lucky you! I usually get off around 6, although I could leave an hour earlier if I came earlier.
I've heard good things about Leo Carillo, but that's a nasty drive from SM in rush hour.
I guess the Del Rey marina will have to do, until the weekend.
