Snowboards in 68? Snurfers weren't snowboards & it also wouldn't be a big accomplishment to stand on one and blast down a hill. The 1st snowboards as we know them came around the 1980- give or take a few years. With that said windsurfing is much, much harder to pick up than snowboarding.

Hey, I learned to snowboard on that Burton! (Of roughly the same design anyway...)
By the next year (86 maybe?) we were excited to see the first metal edged boards (similar to skis & and current tech) that we could rent.

| Hell yeah BSE! I hope you still ride, to me snowboarding definitely helps my windsurfing, not so much the other way around though other than having no off/down time.

| Windoggie those pics remind me of the only good use I found for my O'Brien Pro-Am slalom A horrible windsurf board but not too bad of a toboggan.

That's like saying the first sail-powered surfboards with u-joints weren't windsurfers simply because Hoyle hadn't branded and marketed them yet or nobody had invented footstraps.
And that blasting down a hill on one isn't a big accomplishment was my very point ... leading to your final comment.

| Not even close. Holding a rope while standing on brads nailed into a piece of wood 48" long & 7" wide is no accomplishment(and no snowboard) "Blasting" down the hill on your 1st day on a snowboard is......

back to the original question:
how does the OP start windsurfing in Montreal ?
the voiloka suggestion was SPOT on
this year they are at La Crête beach in OKA Parc 7 days a week
they rent AND they teach
last Friday there were 20 kiters and 10 windsurfers at this beach

come on up and chat with kiters , windsurfers and SUPpers now too
French, English, German - you name it
when winds are SW you can go parallel to the beach and stay shallow
MUCH easier to get back on the board
